Are you Ready to Become a Member of Christ’s Holy Church through Adair United Methodist Church?

If you are thinking about becoming a member of Adair UMC then welcome! The best thing you can do after you pray about it, is to talk to the pastor about membership. Membership is an act of saying that you want to be part of the body of Christ through Adair UMC. It shows that you are committed to doing God’s work alongside your brothers and sisters here at Adair UMC.

Becoming a member of Adair UMC can take several different paths depending on your background with church:

If you are already a member at another church (Baptist, Lutheran, Presbyterian, et al) and you would like to join Adair UMC you can do this by a transfer of membership.

If you are already a member at a church that does not transfer membership you can join by a profession of faith and you’ll be received as a member.

If you have not yet been baptized, you will take membership vows alongside your baptism vows.

If you have been baptized before but not currently active in a church, you will be received through a profession of faith, and a reaffirmation of baptism if you would like.

Membership Vows

When you join the church either by profession of faith, transfer of membership, or Holy Baptism, you will be asked two questions affirming your membership. Those two questions are:

“As members of Christ’s universal church, will you be loyal to Christ through the United Methodist Church, and do all in your power to strengthen its ministries?”

And,

“As members of this congregation, will you faithfully participate in its ministries by your prayers, your presence, your gifts, your service, and your witness?”

If you can honestly answer “I Will” to those two questions then you are ready for membership. The pastor would love to talk to you beforehand to discuss membership, but if you feel the call to membership on a Sunday morning, you can come forward during the hymn of invitation and tell the pastor you are ready to make Adair UMC your home.
